As everyday ticks by we become more conscious of the need to take care and conserve our planet. That is why we want to use more sustainable raw materials. Baluard Barcelona supports Eco Friendly Fabrics. Fabrics made using recycled materials, a practice which boosts both the circular economy and benefits other economies too. Or by using materials made with natural fibres, like cottons or EcoVero viscose. In short, our collection focuses on the use of fabrics that are within sustainability and efficiency parameters, that are regulated regarding harmful substances and that ensure that the working conditions of the employees are decent.

Raw materials

- Origin
Wool is a natural, renewable, and biodegradable fibre. It is a raw material that has a high level of sustainability (animal origin – sheep). Recycled wool refers to wool recovered from remainders and surplus trimmings when processing virgin wool or from wool already used by consumers. Once the wool has been recovered it needs to be shred and processed again to make fibres. These fibres are usually shorter or damaged, so when the product is spined again, these fibres are combined with other fibres, such as cotton or virgin wool making the fibres longer and ending up as a better-quality product.

- Features
Wool is comfortable and healthy. It regulates temperature and humidity thus allowing for perfect transpiration. It does not retain odours, it is used as insulation, also it has antistatic, fire-resistant and antibacterial properties (and therefore does not need to be washed so often). It is wonderfully elastic; the fibres can be folded up to 20,000 times before breaking.

Viscose comes from cellulose (the pulp from tree wood). It is also known as rayon.

Viscose is spined into fabrics that are soft and light but with a heavy hang.
